I like novelty names, especially if they're clever. Something like Taco Belle, for example. That General Specific was ok, though I'd tend to go with General Ized or Specific Ally, myself.

Novelty names are ok f they have wit or humor....

And please please for the love of all things holy/unholy/lolcats whatever floats your boat....
NO MORE DERVS WITH ANY VARIATION OF THE WORD REAPER.
Can we make that a rule or something? For the love of Bob people...

I just named my derv Enchantments Galore, yet I remember during NF preview I wanted "Grim Reaper Kills" lol
But other than that, the only ones close to novelty I have are "Maidn Of The Spear" (Wheel Of Time reference) and Hit U With A Pwn Is =)
and agreed with before, every time I see a naruto sin I want to make a sin called "I am legolas" XD

some of my character names are as follows:
Mmmmmmm Chocolate
Middlefinger O Doom
Glob of Ectogasm
All Bark No Bite
Smokey Mcjoint
Do those count as novelty names? If so, then I'm one of those who enjoys novelty names....

Nomen est omen, even online. When I see Xxx Leggollas Xxx run past me, I don't expect to find a great, original thinker behind that handle. On the other hand, when I see something undeniably original and witty (most people fail on the 'original' part) I may actually laugh and compliment the player. My own naming conventions suggest that I'm fond of absurd humor, among others
Valet Parking, elementalist and my main
Gwen Ate My Socks, necromancer
Dances With Noodles, ranger ('Noodles' is her pet)
Tibia Fibula, ritualist
Shave And A Haircut, dervish
I guess one could call them 'novelty' names

L2Pokemon!
It's Eevee!
I don't mind silly names - but if the name is a real life refference - and the desired name was already taken - I wouldn't resort to miss-spelling it.
I prefer a different name then.
(Although I am still pissed at the swine that caused that I had to use the name Gaius Flavus for my warrior (I wanted a Roman-like name because he runs around wearing the Vabbi outfit) - because the the name I originally wanted includes an additional letter somewhere and that was already taken. Bastard!)

I should have kept that one character I had on my second account to (hopefully) counteract my horrid luck and name.

Donkey Punch 06 is classified as an animal-based name.
Rofl!!!
yeah I hate pop culture referenced names, names framed in X's, spaced out caps....
At least put a little effort into your choice of names.

I tried to be semi original naming my characters for a while. My main is a necro named Gregory Rasputin, I have Ranger Chip, Sergio Gaudium and then some terrible names like Lawful Falafel.... Then there was when I got really lazy and made my seventh character Vii the Seventh, later followed by Ix the Ninth.
The XX Naruto XX names and bastardized legolas names annoy me, but other than that I'm fine with most names.

I don't mind novelty names if they're clever. I don't like the ones that are in poor taste. Personally, I'd never want a character named after the condition of some article of dirty laundry or a body part. So gross.
I just saw a guild abbreviation that means a "lady of the night" in Spanish (edited to get by the forum censor). I wonder if they did that by accident? I doubt it.

I love novelty names when they're silly and funny. Sears Catalog, which I remember off the bat, and many of those funny HA names that pop up too. Fasten Yer Eyepatch [harr], Finger Puppet Audition [SeKc], Wtb Run To Halls, Do The Mike Tyson Maneuver [Bite], We Like Farming [FAME], and many, many others. =]

The only thing on this subject that bothers me is when I see an obviously misspelled name. It's even worse when you see one of these misspelled names with "My Guild Hall Smells of Rich Mahogany" or some other difficult-to-achieve character based title underneath it.

I currently don't have any characters with novelty names, but I do like the unique ones that people have done that seem to put thought into it and are amusing.
I don't care for the Gwen references in names either.

I like some novelty names, I don't like others. Anything framed in x's or spaced caps etc.. and popular character names just seem lazy. I'd use my nwn rp name but gw wouldn't let me use a one word name and I couldn't think of anything to go with Reyoc lol.
